Amid growing uproar over a tabloid campaign to make her president, Barbara Rosenkranz, a deputy leader of the far-right Freedom party, surprised the Austrian elite last week by announcing she would challenge Heinz Fischer, for the Austrian presidency next month.
Rosenkranz, a mother of 10 married to a man who was prominent on the Austrian neo-Nazi scene for two decades, has repeatedly criticised Austria’s laws criminalising denial of the Holocaust. Following an outcry and criticism from her main backer, the mass-circulation Kronen Zeitung newspaper, she publicly signed a statement today pledging never to contest the country’s anti-Nazi legislation. German victim about Soviet rapists
A German woman has become the first of an estimated 2million victims of rape by Soviet soldiers in the Second World War to break the taboo on talking publicly about the crimes.
Gabriele Koepp’s book Why Did I Have To Be A Girl, about the rapes carried out by the Red Army as they marched on Berlin, is the first to be published under a victim’s real name.
The soldiers were encouraged by their leader Josef Stalin to regard the crime as a spoil of war after Hitler’s invasion had left 26million Russians dead.
The Russian establishment continues to deny the events. (more…)

Russia comes through hardest winter, and weather, by any standard, is really cold. Across Moscow, locals run from A to B avoiding the huge phallic icicles which collapse now and then from the spouts of drainpipes. At the doors to the metro, babushkas in headscarves hunch against the bitter wind, begging for pennies. And just a few paces away, Russia’s super-rich are proving their impunity to these testing conditions.

Researches show that men feel significantly less guilt than women. From forgetting to post a birthday card to starting an affair, the males are less likely to feel remorse, sorrow, empathy or anger.
It could also shed light on why untrue husbands or boyfriends often refuse to admit they are wrong, even when all the evidence is stacked against them.
The problem, the study said, is not that women feel too much guilt – but that men feel too little. (more…)

One of EU countries – France may soon ban the public wearing of traditional garments of Muslim women – hijab headscarves, niqab veils and paranja robes. The announcement came from the report prepared by the committee of the national parliament. Thirty-two deputies of the committee studied the issue of wearing traditional Muslim clothing in public places due to numerous complaints received from native citizens. The native French are concerned with the growing number of women dressed in dark overalls in the streets. (more…)
