I could appreciate advantages of living in 15 “ghetto” district of Vienna only when spring came. There was Schmelz nearby, – spacious patch of ground, where local pensioners cultivated vegetables and flowers in small private gardens.
Most of the time outer environment could look grim for us – city folks trapped in concrete boxes of our flats. We were also trapped in offices, in trams, in sticky wagons of underground, forced to go same way and make same choices every day, as miniature train ever repeats its route in the window of toys shop. Women with good genes have more sexual partners

Monday, April 5th, 2010

GENES behind the immune system may explain why some women have more sexual partners than others.
The major histocompatibility complex is the most gene-dense region of the genome and plays an important role in our immune system. The more diverse the genes of this region are, the more effective this complex is at disease resistance and our overall survival. Some animals with diverse genome are more likely to survive and be chosen as a sexual partner.
Hanne Lie of the University of Western Australia measured the diversity of this complex in 74 heterosexual female students and asked them about the number of sexual partners they had had. She found that the greater a woman’s genome diversity was, the more sexual partners she had had.

New Age Authors

Ram Dass (born 1931) is a contemporary spiritual teacher who wrote the 1971 bestseller Remember Be Here Now. He was born to a prominent Jewish  family in Massachusetts. After studying psychology and earning a Ph.D., he conducted research at Harvard University. Ram Dass’s explorations of human consciousness led him to conduct intensive research with LSD and other psychedelic elements. Because of the controversial nature of this research, Ram Dass and Leary was dismissed from Harvard in 1963.
He continued research with a private foundation, when he traveled to India. There he met his spiritual teacher. Under his guru’s guidance, he studied yoga and meditation and received the name Ram Dass, or “servant of God.”
In 1997, Ram Dass suffered a massive stroke in his left brain hemisphere. The stroke left him with extensive right side paralysis, expressive aphasia, and a number of recurring and threatening health problems. However, he interprets his stroke as an act of grace  and continues to travel giving lectures, as his health permits. Ram Dass is a vegetarian, and has also acknowledged his bisexuality. (more…)

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj (1897-1981) was an Indian spiritual teacher and philosopher of nondualism, one of the most famous Gurus of all times. In 1973, the publication of his most famous and widely-translated book, I Am That, brought him worldwide recognition and followers.
He was born in Bombay in ordinary family, where he grew up amidst his six silblings, by deeply religious parents. His father was a poor man who had been a servant in Bombay before turning to farming.
From his living in the slums of Bombay, Nisargadatta, this self-realized master became famous for brilliant, aphoristic, extemporized talks in which he taught Jnana Yoga based on his own experience. Many of these talks have been published in books. (more…)

It could also shed light on why untrue husbands or boyfriends often refuse to admit they are  wrong, even when all the evidence is stacked against them.
The problem, the study said, is not that women feel too much guilt – but that men feel too little. (more…)

One of EU countries – France may soon ban the public wearing of traditional garments of Muslim women – hijab headscarves, niqab veils and paranja robes.
