Depression is actually good for you

Experts now believe that mild to moderate depression may be good for us – and even help us live longer. We constantly hear how depression disfigures our lives, but some experts have an interesting, if controversial, theory: depression can be good for us.
To anyone in the grip of depression, which can vary from mild to severe, this may sound absurd and offensive. Clinical depression is frightening illness that can ruin people’s lives, but experts say that, for some people at least, there can be benefits.
If you have depression, which, by definition, is a paralysis of motivation, it will be hard to see any positive outcome. But people who go through it come out stronger. It can act as a catalyst to survival. Continue reading Depression is actually good for you →

Self-observe exercises

The Fourth Way is a term used by G. Gurdjieff (famous Armenian mystic and spiritual teacher 1866– 1949) to describe his approach to self-development. Gurdjieff believed that his method combined three established ways: that of the body, the emotions and the mind. The Fourth Way is an ingenious collection of mental tools designed to allow one to observe oneself bringing to conscious light the false personality. The Fourth Way mainly addresses the question of people’s place in the Universe and their possibilities for inner development. It emphasized that people live their lives in a state of “waking sleep”. Healthy food and equal rights for middle age females

by Galina Toktalieva
One of my associate photographers took me for lunch in Lugner City. We both liked busy atmosphere of the place. There, in the midst of common turmoil, we could talk about our common projects and about script for feature film I was writing. During the last 20-years of my journalism-related activities I grew accustomed to fact that best pro ideas may be born in relaxed consume atmosphere. But only if one enjoys the eating. After years of practice I developed choosiness of picky restaurant expert. Passing a number of places on the upper floor offering low-cost buffets with their tasty glutamate varieties, we eventually settled down in Italian harbor, where I came to be satisfied with plate of flaccid green salad and glass of fresh orange juice, which kept traces of night spent in refrigerator and bitter after-taste of sugar. Since I became vegetarian, to find cozy eating place in Vienna other than my kitchen started to be a problem. Continue reading Mature models →

Der Akt

By Galina Toktalieva
Among other dreams for paranormal powers, I had dream of myself splitting in two and keeping company of my duplicate. I envisioned complete understanding between those two – the sort of intimacy identical twins have. Looking around, I knew I would stay inexplicable for ever. It is rare that friends have similar interests, viewpoints and comparable state of inner evolution when they start to speak. It is rare that their mutual sympathy is pure and free of rivalry or gender merge instincts. So success of their interaction depends on common points or limited shared space they have, which often looks like tiny intersection of two light rays. Maybe communication to the clone would look like merge of two parallel lines and enclose eternity? I fancied we would do a lot of things together with my double: enjoy talk or share silence, assist to one another in hundreds of everyday tasks. But best of all – we would create stuff in art nude photography. Continue reading Der Akt →

Flight over the Cuckoo’s nest

by Galina Toktalieva
To make our lessons more enjoyable, young teacher replacing an older one, urged us to talk in German about personal ambitions, stimulating our activity by patient approach of recently baked pedagogue and by genuine curiosity that glowed at her fresh innocent face.
Poor German and lack of imagination may seem connected, if one is absolutely sure that level of income correlates with IQ. Disciples play their roles well. If one considers pupils to be stupid, the performance during lesson will be all dullness and stupidity. If one considers them to be smart, one would get astonishing proof of such beliefs. It is amazing, how subtle and intelligent dish washer on welfare could be, who cannot articulate simplest phrases and has 2-years old child vocabulary. Continue reading Flight over the Cuckoo’s nest →
