Wien (AFP) — In Kärnten, der Hochburg des im vergangenen Jahr bei einem Unfall ums Leben gekommenen Rechtspopulisten Jörg Haider , wird heute ein neuer Landtag gewählt. Umfragen erwarten ein Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen zwischen Haiders Bündnis Zukunft Österreich (BZÖ) und der sozialdemokratischen SPÖ. Der konservativen Österreichischen Volkspartei, die mit BZÖ und SPÖ derzeit die Regierung in Kärnten stellt, werden zwölf Prozent der Stimmen vorausgesagt.

Jörg Haider (* 26. Jänner 1950 in Oberösterreich; † 11. Oktober 2008 in Kärnten) war ein österreichischer Politiker des so genannten dritten Lagers. Haider war zwischen 1971 und 1975 Bundesobmann des Rings Freiheitlicher Jugend und von 1986 bis 2000 Vorsitzender der Freiheitlichen Partei Österreichs (FPÖ). Im April 2005 spalteten sich unter seiner Federführung zahlreiche Funktionäre von der FPÖ ab und gründeten die Partei Bündnis Zukunft Österreich (BZÖ). Er war von 1989 bis 1991 sowie von 1999 bis zu seinem Tod Landeshauptmann von Kärnten. We love the man, in whose presence we love ourselves.  Photographing young solders during national holiday in Heldenplatz on Sunday, I was thinking why so many women fall for men in military uniform. It is thirst for strength and masculinity. Women can not see much of that in their actual husbands and partners. All society slides in homosexuality. Women become more and more competitive, ruthless, tough, and men, o, these Austrian men! More and more lazy, cowardly, impotent and talkative. But all the same I like these odd creatures with balls. Some of them are really superior to women- from intellectual point of view. They are also often less mercantile than women. And they can be real friends.

This is my melancholic respond to Austrian media election campaign hysteria. Today coming back from my courses, I saw three young drug-users in the secluded carriage of the tube. They unpacked small container with white staff and sniffed it one after the other- two girls and one young man- using smooth glossy cover of election leaflet as plate for happiness powder. As it always was, politicians make politics for themselves – to gain more power and its monetary equivalent; others are mostly passive and skeptical spectators of the show. And now Jörg haider is dead! I feel terrible thinking that I may be invested in bringing his catastrophic end in metaphisical sense, when I exposed this photo! But what is done is done.

Streit und gegenseitige Schuldzuweisungen gehören mittlerweile zum politischen Alltag in Kärnten.
Seit einigen Tagen hat der SPÖ Klubobmann von Kärnten, Herwig Seiser, ein neues und ertragreiches Terrain an fruchtbaren Kritikmöglichkeiten entdeckt. Es handelt sich hierbei um das Gesundheitssystem in Kärnten.
Dieses wäre in Österreich vorbildhaft, und würde nun von Haiders Leuten völlig ruiniert werden, so der Sozialdemokrat. Ausserdem bezeichnet er die Regierungspartei als rülpsende Ahnungslose, die durch lautes Gebrüll ihre Inkompetenz verstecken wollten.
Das sind natürlich schwere Anschuldigungen, die dem neutralen politischen Beobachter das Blut in den Adern gefrieren lässt. Doch wer denkt Klubobmann Seiser würde sich mit dieser Kritik zufrieden geben, der liegt falsch.
Denn der Sozialdemokrat legt noch einmal nach, und beschimpft seinen politischen Gegner als machtbesessen, der die Wünsche und Bedürfnisse der Bürger sträflich vernachlässigen würde.
Doch der kritische Sozialdemokrat wäre kein engagierter Politiker, hätte er nicht eine Lösung aus der Krise in Gepäck. “Die SPÖ soll wieder die Macht in Kärnten übernehmen, denn nur wir Sozialdemokraten nehmen die Wünsche und Ängste der Bürger ernst, und stellen immer den Menschen an die erste Stelle”, so Herwig Seiser.
Da können die Kärntner also noch einmal erleichtert aufatmen. Sowas Nachrichten

Austria’s xenophobia
Alarm bells are sure to be ringing in Austria’s corridors of power following pressure from the United Nations for the country to improve its stand on the rights of immigrants and asylum seekers.
The committee criticises the “frequently xenophobic” handling of refugees and immigrants by parties. Speeches of some politicians are “hateful”, declared the UN.
The association also stated that the discrimination of minorities in daily life such as discrimination in the job market and with rental accommodation “are worrying”.Thomas Hochwarter, Austrian Times
Hindus have asked all minorities in Austria to stand up and vote in the June, 2009 elections to European Parliament.
Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that strong voting by minorities was even more important in this election because of persistent discrimination, racism and xenophobia against ethnic minorities and immigrants in European Union (EU).
A recent survey by EU Agency for Fundamental Rights revealed that “discrimination, harassment and racially motivated violence are far more widespread than recorded in official statistics”.

Chef of styrian social-democrats is for coalition with ÖVP
Styrian SPÖ Governor Franz Voves has spoken up in support of governing coalition with the ÖVP.
Voves said: “I was and I am a supporter of this coalition. I think that it is the best solution for the next five-ten years.”
Franz Voves – former ice-hockey national team player refused to comment on whether the SPÖ should continue such cooperation in case it fails to receive the most votes in the 28 September election. Voves dismissed talk about possible election outcomes as mere speculation at the moment. In contrast to some other SPÖ leaders, the 55-year-old Voves stressed the point that he would not exclude any party from talks about a possible coalition. Voves expects that the SPÖ will be number one on 28 September due to new SPÖ leader Werner Faymann, which has beén “fantastic” in Styria.Austrian Times.

Peter Westenthaler (6. November 1967 in Wien; gebürtig Peter Hojač) ist ein österreichischer Politiker und langjähriger Spitzenrepräsentant der FPÖ, später des BZÖ. Westenthaler ließ seinen Familiennamen Hojač auf den Geburtsnamen der Mutter ändern.

Peter Westenthaler will not be top candidate for BZÖ. Westenthaler received a sentence of nine months on probation for perjury during his testimony at the trial of one of his bodyguards charged with assault last March. The bodyguard attacked a spokesman for former Justice Minister Karin Gastinger in a Vienna nightspot on the evening of the 1 October 2006, but Westenthaler, who witnessed the attack, said during his testimony that he had witnessed nothing.
