Причина смерти журналиста остаётся неизвестной

МОСКВА – 02 апреля,2009. В городe Химки у подъезда собственного дома был избит сотрудник редакции оппозиционной химкинской газеты «Гражданское согласие» Сергей Протазанов. Как сообщил начальник управления информации и общественных связей ГУВД Московской области Евгений Гильдеев, 30 марта в своей квартире без признаков насильственной смерти был обнаружен труп 36-летнего Сергея Протазанова. «По данным медицинской экспертизы, смерть наступила в результате отравления неизвестным веществом, – считает Евгений Гильдеев. По словам жены покойного, Сергей в самом деле принимал обезболивающие, но их доза была слишком мала, чтобы привести к смерти.

В подмосковных Химках это уже не первый случай жестокого избиения представителей оппозиционной прессы. В 2006 году нападению подверглись главный редактор газеты «Гражданский форум» Юрий Гранин и ответственный секретарь этого же издания Юрий Слюсарев. Их избили железной трубой. Гранину проломили голову, а Слюсареву сломали челюсть. Следующим оказался главный редактор газеты «Гражданское согласие» Анатолий Юров. На него покушались трижды, последний случай произошел в 2008 году. Ему нанесли 10 ножевых ранений. Следующей жертвой стал главред «Химкинской правды» Михаил Бекетов, который до сих пор находится в тяжелом состоянии в госпитале Склифосовского и которому в результате травм ампутировали ногу. Он прикован к постели, узнает родных и знакомых, но не говорит.

3 февраля днем в Солнечногорске было совершенно нападение на главного редактора местной газеты «Солнечногорский форум» Юрия Грачева. Нападение было совершено возле подъезда его дома. С рваной раной на щеке и сильным сотрясением головного мозга он был доставлен в больницу.

Теперь погиб Сергей Протазанов. Из-за гибели верстальщика выход в свет ближайшего номера «Гражданского согласия» откладывается. В свежем выпуске газеты должна была идти речь о прошедших 1 марта выборах мэра Химок, на которых победил прежний глава округа Владимир Стрельченко. Его администрация лоббировала строительство скоростной автомагистрали Москва–Питер, которая должна была пройти через территорию Химкинского леса, что вызвало протесты экологов и широкий общественный резонанс.

Der kirgisische Journalist Syrgaka Abdyldajew hat Glück gehabt: Er lebt. Ärzte bezeichnen seinen Zustand als stabil. Der 47-Jährige wurde am Dienstagabend in der kirgisischen Hauptstadt Bischkek Opfer einer brutalen Messerattacke. Vier Männer stürzten sich vor dem Redaktionsbüro der regierungskritischen Zeitung Reporter Bischkek auf den Journalisten und streckten ihn mit 21 Messerstichen nieder. Danach konnten sie entkommen. Das Motiv für den Angriff sei in dessen journalistischer Arbeit zu suchen, vermutet ein kirgisischer Parlamentarier. Source:taz.de

Next vicious assault against journalists in Central Asian region: Kyrgyz reporter and government critic was stabbed and beaten in an attack
BISHKEK – A prominent journalist and political analyst for the independent Kyrgyz weekly «Reporter-Bishkek» is in hospital after surviving a vicious assault. On the evening of March 3, unknown assailants attacked Syrgak Abdyldaev outside his newsroom in Bishkek and stabbed him more than 20 times. Abdyldaev also suffered a concussion and broken arms in this assault. He is reported to be in serious condition.»Reporter-Bishkek» editor in chief, Turat Akimov, says Abdyldaev had received threatening phone calls and saw a car had been following him on the day of the attack. Akimov tells that he believes the attack could be a warning to both the newspaper and to Abdyldaev over the newspaper’s critical political coverage.
«Attacks on journalists — and even murders — have been taking place more and more often recently, endangering not just reporters themselves but also freedom of speech in the country,» the Kyrgyz opposition Ata-Meken party said.

Journalists must be shot dead

MOSCOW – A Russian human rights lawyer renowned for his work on abuses in Chechnya was shot to death Monday by a masked gunman who followed him from a news conference. A young journalist who tried to intervene also was shot.

The broad-daylight shootings of lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova prompted grief and outrage in a country where lawyers and journalists who challenge the official version of justice are frequently targeted.

Colleagues drew comparisons with the 2006 killing of investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya — a client of Markelov’s and a fellow enemy of rights abuses in Chechnya and across former President Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

Markelov, 34, was shot near a building where he had just held a news conference, about half a mile (1 kilometer) from the Kremlin.

Markelov was shot in the back of the head at close range by an attacker who followed him after the news conference, wore a stocking-style mask and had a silencer on his gun — clear signs of a planned killing, state-run RIA-Novosti news agency reported.

Fatal intervention

Anastasia Baburova, a freelance journalist in her mid-20s who had worked for the Novaya Gazeta newspaper, was shot when she tried to intervene after Markelov was attacked. Another Novaya Gazeta editor, Sergei Sokolov, later said she died on an operating table.

Markelov, who represented the family of the 18-year-old Chechen woman killed by Col. Yuri Budanov in 2000, had told reporters he was considering filing an international court appeal against Budanov’s early release, the RIA-Novosti news agency reported.

Freedom of speech in Russia

Russia is considered to be one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists to work.

The situation gained worldwide attention two years ago after the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, a reporter who was fatally gunned down while investigating the victims of the Russian war in Chechnya.

The Glastnost Defense Foundation, which provides legal support to the media in Russia, estimates that more than 220 journalists have been killed in Russia since 1991.

Of those deaths, only six have been «properly investigated,» according to the foundation. «They don’t think journalists are really useful in this country,» said the foundation’s president Alexei Simonov, referring to Russian authorities. «Sometimes they even think they’re worse than useless.»
