Homeless

Homeless woman had found in junk container something to eat. I made the snapshot in very center of Vienna. Perhaps she is crazy, like many of homeless persons. At least she was talking to herself. This email I received today: I read Die Wiener Nachrichten today...

Object of desire

About 120,000 people in colorful clothes took part in Vienna’s annual Rainbow Parade on Saturday to call for equal rights for gays, lesbians and transvestites. I must add that to be transvestite does not necessarily mean to be homosexual. Some transvestites are fascinated with women’s clothes...

Vienna, Vienna!

Whenever pink morning light transits to yellow of midday, and wind blowing from Schmelz stops bringing meditative tunes of kukus bird, I start my everyday journey. Mirror in my small flat is the gateway. I step behind it and as invisible clot of energy roll outside....

1 Bezirk

This is the lady in the brown hat, photographed with Nikkor AF 70-210mm, f4-5.6. Snapshot was made in conditions of cloudy weather. Woman appeared suddenly in front of me and moved rather quickly. It is also question of ethics to photograph people in the street when they maybe don’t want this to be photographed. Some time later, analyzing my personal history of street photographer, I see that I devoted too much time and effort to this business, and always felt frustrated that nobody noticed my work.

Schwedenplatz

I like combination of red and green. In Graz the trams are green, and here in Vienna they are red. I guess too much sitting with pictures makes me asocial. After many hours of privacy I find it difficult to bare prolonged small talks. I read yesterday letters of Vincent van Gogh to his brother. He knew he was wild and asocial, and also knew he would stay in state of extreme poverty till the end of his life. He wrote that painting was hard physical work. Only he himself knew true value of his art at that time. It is the same with all of us.

Meaningful background

Minister Doris Bures and Werner Faymann (SPOe) with Westbahnhof under reconstruction in background. I must confess I had sent emails to representatives of all Austrian political parties offering my services as photographer, and Franz Voves – governor of Styria (SPOe) was the only one who replied....

Red phantoms. Scarlet thread of my craze

Zhanna It was sunny spring of 1982. The university alley of apple and peach trees was all pink lace of blossoms. The air was fresh and clear. But I was ascending marble staircase of main building with monument of Great Chief at the top feeling chill...

Kids

Walking tours, cold day, shopping street, no gloves. Boy from the right told patronizingly touching my shoulder that Nikon D200 is somewhat old. It was fun to shoot them. It is always easy to shoot young people. Older persons are often suspicious about something and full...

Life is a road

Feeling lonely I would go to railway station and stay there thinking about different things. What is love? What is success and failure? They exist as patterns common for all, or everybody has his own definition? What is there for sure is movement. Moving along the...
